At home...

Just thought I'd post a quick update and let everyone know that we are home and all is well. We got to come home Thursday afternoon and it seems like we haven't had a free second since. I'm super excited to be back in the comfort of our own home without nurses and doctors everywhere. Egan is the sweetest baby I know and the cutest if I do say so myself. He is keeping the 2 of us super busy, but we are loving every second of being with our snuggly little boy.
I promise we have taken pictures, but I haven't had any time to sit down at the computer. Any free time, I'd rather spend sleeping than downloading pictures. Haha.
Bo is adjusting fine to his new little brother. Most of the time he just ignores him. He really doesn't like to hear him cry though. I think that causes some stress. I guess that is one thing he'll have to get used to.

Ps- if you've called or emailed us and we haven't gotten back to you, please understand we'd like to get back to you, but if you haven't heard, there is a new kid in town, and we think he's pretty cool.

37 weeks and an end in sight

Yesterday made 37 weeks for our little guy, and that means he is officially full term. I am excited about that for sure. I've been here for a little over 2.5 weeks and am ready to get this show going. The doctor did a sonagram on Thursday afternoon and said everything looks great. Our little boy is doing lots of "practice breathing" which sounds strange to me. He also has plenty of fluid and everything as well. I'm getting better and better at being able to tell what I'm looking at on the sonagram. At 37 weeks, only a small part of the baby can be seen, but I've seen enough now that I'm getting it. It's nice!
In other news, the doctor has "drawn a line in the sand" (his words). His plan is to induce this week, more specifically Tuesday. I know that it could easily change to earlier or later because of the high blood pressure, so don't worry if you don't hear something because nothing may have happened yet. I'm getting excited though. Blake is getting the finishing touches done trying to have everything ready, but I'm sure he's excited too.
That's it for now!

nothing...

That is what is happening here... nothing... just playing the waiting game for a bit longer. Every day is somewhat like groundhog day. The same thing over and over.
That said, I don't have a lot to update on. I've been here for over 2 weeks now and on bed rest for four weeks total. I can say that I will be ready to be able to get up and move around some more. More to come when I have more to say.

Blake loves this.

Since being in the hospital, I've learned a few things about the food. They don't like to include condiments with anything. If I want some ranch dressing with my salad, I have to ask specifically for it. If I want more than 1 tiny package... specify that too. My favorite is when they bring a food that any normal american would eat with ketchup, but don't include that. One of my first few days here, I asked a nurse for some ketchup, and she said that it is hard to come by, so the next time Blake went down to get some food for himself, I asked that he bring me some. You better believe it is rationed out. I've also got packages of salt, pepper, sugar, honey, splenda, Buffalo sauce from chick-fil-a, and I already mentioned ketchup and Ranch. Blake thinks it is funny that his wife has become a condiment hoarder since coming here, but I say the joke is on him. Last night he drank coffee with the pink stuff in it. When he said it wasn't good, I kindly reminded him of my stash which includes splenda and sugar. Maybe now he'll give up on that joke. haha.

Funny story of the morning

I've mentioned here before that starting at about 5 in the morning, I have an endless stream of people in and out of my room. If you know me, then you know I like my sleep... Yeah, yeah, I know, I'm about to have a baby and the sleep thing is going to have to change, but I don't have a baby yet and being woken at 5 every morning wasn't really how I was planning on spending my last few weeks before having a child. Anyway, I'm not as bitter as I sound. I'm thankful for the great care, but I do have a good story about this from this morning.
The last nurse left my room at about 12:30 last night and came back at about 5:15 this morning. When she left, I had a hard time going back to sleep and was still awake when the resident came in at 6:30 to ask me the same questions they do every day. Breakfast came in at 7. It was also shift change for the nurses at 7 and so my new nurse came in at 7:15. I was still trying unsuccessfully to sleep and she says "Oh, are you still tired today?" I wanted to reply with "I think I've only gotten about 4.5 hrs of sleep so far tonight. Yes, I'm still tired." I didn't reply with that though. I simply said, "What do you mean?" I guess she realized that didn't sound so nice and didn't make the best first impression with a sleeping patient. She started asking the normal questions and then realized that she went in the wrong room. Dang. She left and my nurse came in a few minutes later. At that point, I gave up and just stayed awake. Ahhh, hospital fun.

My husband, the budding photographer, and the place I call home.

Recently we ordered a new camera, and I've been working with Blake on the details of photographing with a digital SLR camera. He is doing a great job! Here is a photo he took the other night as he was leaving the hospital for the evening. Great job! He even had the added challenge of photographing in the dark.
On another note, Blake has done a great job finishing up getting ready for the baby to get here, taking care of me, and working. Earlier this week, he made a trip to Old Navy and got some of the cutest baby clothes I've seen... and controlled himself enough to only get one hoodie. We all know Blake loves hoodies (as do I!) Also, last night, he scouted me out a new room a little further from the nurse's station and has a better view. After an ok from the nurse, he gathered up all my junk and wheeled me down here. I also got permission from the doctor to get out of my room for a little bit. Wow, was it nice to get outside last night. I can't get off the hospital property, but I'm ok with that. The fresh air was great.
Still no new news from the doctor. We may have a sonagram this evening to check things out, but I'm not sure. He said things still look good though! My blood pressure has been staying pretty low unless I'm up for a few minutes or am stressed about something, which is to be expected. Hopefully things won't change for a while and this little guy can continue to grow!

No title in mind.

I just thought I'd post a quick update with what's going on here. Not a lot has changed. I'm still laying in bed at the hospital, but I did pass the 35 week mark on Saturday. This baby is getting bigger every day! Right now he gets hiccups at least once a day and isn't such a fan of the monitoring they do on me twice a day. I guess it is the tight belts they put around my waist.
I talk to the doctor every day and he is just taking it one day at a time, weighing the pros and cons of having the baby stay inside. Nothing like the unknown!
I'll write more when I have more news, but let's hope that there is no big news for a while!

Wanna get the scoop?

Here it is... I'm in the hospital... bummer, I know. Here's why:
On Wednesday I called the doctor because my blood pressure had continued to be higher than I'd like and I was also having headaches and nausea. I had an appointment scheduled for Thursday, but the doctor wanted me to come in on Wednesday anyway. He wasn't in the office that day, but his nurse ran some tests and reported to him. With the results, he decided it was time to head across the street to the hospital. Surprise to us! We thought we'd be home in a few hours. While in the hospital, they ran some more tests and decided to at least keep me over night. Surprise again! With those results in, the doctor told me yesterday morning (Thursday) that I'd be staying. It looks like I'll stay till the baby is born. Surprise! There you go. Since then it has been a steady flow of tests. (Let me take your blood pressure, temperature, lungs, heart rate, baby heart beat, monitor the baby and contractions, weight, pee in this bucket, draw some blood, test your reflexes... no lie... it has something to do with high blood pressure...) Needless to say, I'm being well taken care of, it just feels like an endless flow of people in here from 5 in the morning on. The nurses and techs are great and cheerful, so that makes a 5:30 am wakeup not as bad. They (my doctor and nurses) say the baby is doing well, and we'll take it a day at a time... For real. I keep trying to get it out of my doctor with at least a rough prediction, but he won't budge... haha. He did say this morning that "it looks like I'll make it through the weekend". I had no idea he was even thinking it could be that soon. If I were guessing though, I think it will be sometime in the next 3 weeks. I haven't heard a reason that they would let me go past 38 weeks. I think at that point the pros start to be weighed out by the cons. One other thing the doctor said was that most of the time babies born to moms with high blood pressure typically have more mature lungs than their non high blood pressure mom counterparts. Interesting, right?
Other than that, we're learning about what all the monitors mean and what they are looking for. In that, we have learned that our little guy looks great as he "plays" in my tummy. That's great news!
Blake has been super busy taking care of me here, and is doing a great job. Since we weren't expecting to be here, he has made a few trips home to get things we need. Also, to help take one thing off of Blake's plate, Bo is hanging out with my parents while I'm in here. He's had a crazy few days as well. The first night I was in the hospital, he went to stay with some sweet friends that offered to watch him last minute so Blake could come care for me. Blake went to pick him up yesterday though and he was more than excited to be reunited. He didn't know what had hit him! (and by hit... I don't mean literally.)
In nursery news, we (and by we, I mean... not me) have made a little more progress. Blake took a dresser that we got a few weeks ago and sanded it down to prepare it for repainting and then his parents came to help paint it earlier this week. They really did a great job. I'll see what I can do to get Blake to take a picture once it is in the room.
I'm also sad to be missing a shower this weekend. So sad! Blake was planning on going with me anyway, but I'm super sad that I don't get to come too. Hopefully he'll give me the scoop though. Darn, this high blood pressure sure isn't the most convenient thing!
I'll try to keep the updates here as I know what is going on, but like I said earlier, I don't really know what is going on. All I know is, we're doing fine. Baby is doing great. I have a constant head ache and am nauseous most of the day, but nothing I can't handle. Check back soon... maybe I'll know more then!
PS- there is a Chick-fil-a here in the hospital. Because of that, I know I'll be ok.
